We are an employer required by law to carry out Gender Pay Reporting under the Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017. We are a recruitment agency/business so the statistics report is inclusive of the temporary workers that we supply under contracts for services across many different disciplines and industries.
This involves carrying out six calculations that show the difference between the average earnings of men and women in our organisation. These are not comparing pay levels for people in the same role.
The six calculations are:
These results are published annually, on our own website and the government website.
We can use these results to assess:
The metrics have been calculated using the company’s payroll system, automating the six measures and ensuring full review against the Gender Pay Gap reporting regulations.
Gender Pay Gap Results
The results for the year commencing 5th April 2018 are as follows:
(ii) Lower middle quartile male : female = 66.15% : 33.85%
(iii) Upper middle quartile male : female = 60.00% : 40.00%
(iv) Upper quartile male : female = 53.03% : 46.97%
The gaps show that average male pay and bonus in our organisation is below the average for females. This goes against the wider picture statistics, where average female pay continues to lag behind male pay in many cases.
The results reflect the high levels of male workers employed in manual roles versus female workers in administrative roles. As these are largely temporary workers, the comparative terms under the Agency Workers Regulations are frequently different between the two environments, resulting in the pay and bonus gaps identified above.
We continue to recruit on an equal opportunities basis, encouraging women to undertake the manual roles and men to move into administrative positions. These traditional employment routes however tend to be individual choice, rather than through decisions made by 1st Choice or the employer we recruit on behalf of.
