I saw something trending on Twitter a few weeks ago that really got me thinking. @Mantia asked the question, “What do people just not get about your job?” and it had a lot of attention. It’s clear, everyone has an image in their minds of what others do for a living but how accurate are they?
We know that us recruiters can be misunderstood, some may think all we do is read CVs and send them willy nilly to clients, easy peasy, job done – we wish! This is not the case at all, we don’t have a cupboard full of ready and waiting candidates who are perfect for each role. We know that our clients come to us to save themselves time and money, we search through hundreds of CVs and narrow it down, meeting with candidates before sending the client the cream of the crop.
Job satisfaction, high fives and plenty of celebratory cups of tea. It’s genuinely exciting to fill and role and it’s a great feeling when you’ve built up a relationship with a candidate and you help them to land their dream job, as well finding someone amazing for a client. Money can’t buy the feeling you get when you know you’ve played a part in positively impacting someone’s life or business.
We are a candidate’s first window of opportunity to get into a new role. It rarely happens, but sometimes we do come across a candidate who will be anything but polite and pleasant and while we don’t like to judge, we have to send only the best candidates to our clients and we won’t want to send someone who ‘effs and jeffs’ to us in our first meeting for a customer service role.
We do like to get to know both clients and candidates alike, build up a relationship so we know exactly what each of them is looking for, that way we can do our job to the best of our ability. It’s why candidates and clients stay loyal to us, spread the word of the good work we do, it’s why we’ve been in business for nearly 30 years.
A common mistake we find is that people think we are like the Job Centre, according to Wikipedia, the Job Centre Plus is a Government run cooperation; ‘The functions of Jobcentre Plus are now provided directly through the Department for Work and Pensions. The agency provided services primarily to those attempting to find employment and to those requiring the issuing of a financial provision due to, in the first case lack of employment, of an allowance to assist with the living costs and expenditure intrinsic to the effort to achieve employment,[1] or in all other cases the provision of social-security benefit as the result of a person without an income from employment due to illness-incapacity’. Here at 1st Choice Recruitment, like many other agencies, we have clients and candidates. Clients come to us with job vacancies and we find the perfect candidate to fill it. We can’t help with any financial difficulties, but we can help you find a job!
Are robots going to give us humans the boot in the world of recruitment? Certainly not! Here at 1st Choice Recruitment, we pride ourselves on the relationships we build with clients and candidates. A computer system may be there to help us search through thousands of CV’s but take over completely, absolutely not. We use empathy to understand different situations, different circumstances we find clients and candidates come to us with are all understood by our human emotion. We meet everyone we work with, we chat, we build a relationship and we build trust. Someone’s career or job role is a huge part of their life and we aim to make people happy, we think we will be waiting many years before artificial intelligence will be walking in our shoes.
This rumour isn’t one that we come across that frequently here at 1st Choice Rec, we run 4 branches and cover a wide area and we recruit nationally too. Yes, you may recognise the big guy’s logos, you may have heard of their world wide success and we don’t deny that they are fantastic, they’re big for a reason but you’d be missing out on a treat if you don’t give the small guys a chance. In the last 6 months we have recruited HR Directors, Governance Manager (transport sector), Cluster Manager (care sector), Operations Director & Pattern Shop Manager (Formula 1), HR Systems (Utilities sector) Production Manager, Programme Manager, Senior Test Engineer (Electronics sector) as well as all the normal day to day recruitment for commercial and industrial staff.
